after a beautiful drive through Chiapas to the bordertown of Cuauhtémoc I arrived in Guatemala. The border crossing was a breeze with exceptional friendly officials, helping me to get the paperwork done and after an hour I was on the way to Lago de Atitlán. A gorgeous lake flanked by three volcanoes where I worked a couple of days in the garden of my hotel and took the lake in (stunning!). On to Antigua, which has so much charm and is understandably a bit overrun by foreigners, who are very chilled and seem very happy to have found this place. I was debating on my first day there to hike el Volcán del Fuego, but with a bit of work becoming urgent I decided against it, sat in a nice cafe and only heard through my colleague in Japan that this very Volcano had erupted a few hours ago and that people were being evacuated. I stormed into the streets expecting Roland Emerich movie-like scenes and already imagined me barely escaping a stream of lava and saving along the way a Guatemalan family on the Jeep's backseat. But none of it, life in Antigua continued as relaxed as any day and I decided to visit my favorite Mezcaleria instead. The next morning I contemplated that it is probably not a good idea to venture into the mountains and decided it would be a good reason to continue to Honduras!
here are some photos from these days in Guatemala
